Church's inaugural Career Day attracts black professionals
Publish Date: February 22, 2007
In honor of Black History Month,
Second Missionary Baptist Church recently hosted
its first Career Day for black professionals in the work place. Denise
Gray implemented
the program by searching for African-American professionals from various fields.
The
Rev. Allen Overton began the program, welcoming participants and reiterating
that
today's young people need to learn how to take advantage of the opportunities
given
to them. "They have chances many of us never had," he said.
Twenty-five skilled
professionals, ranging from attorneys to educational specialist, then gave
overviews
of their careers, each ranging from two to five minutes long. they offered
inspirational
messages, reminding students they can do anything they put their minds to.
A
reception followed the program, in which presenters networked with attendees and
discussed their careers more deeply.
